Denver Botanical Gardens - Free Summer Classes

The Denver Botanic Gardens thrives in the warm Colorado summer months. Among its many summer offerings, this year the Gardens will partner with Colorado Conservatory of Dance (CCD) to host dance/movement drop-in activities in the Mordecai Children’s Garden. These interactive classes will provide adults with the time to wander and enjoy the Gardens, while their children are interacting and learning about different garden themes. The activities are free with admission, and will be offered every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon fromJune 2 through July 14.

Each Movement and Motion in the Garden class will be led by two CCD instructors, and will mimic different garden themes such as growing like a flower or buzzing like a bee. Below you will find the scheduled themes for each week.

6/2 – Life Cycle of a Plant
6/9 – Plant Parts
6/16 – What Does a Plant Need to Grow?
6/23 – Colorado Ecosystems
6/30 - Pollinators
7/7 – Plants that Dance
7/14 – Carnivorous Plants

If you are making a list of things to do this summer with your kids, make sure you put these on the list!

Blossom of Light & Trail of Lights - Denver Botanical Gardens

BLOSSOMS OF LIGHT & TRAIL OF LIGHTS

November 29, 2013 - January 1, 2014

I have been in Denver for over 13 years, and I have never been to either of these events. I find myself to busy during the holiday season I forget to enjoy myself and see what the local places have to offer.

Denver Botanic Gardens continues its annual holiday tradition of adorning the gardens and farm with colorful lights to celebrate the festive season. Blossoms of Light(York Street) features animated light sculptures and elaborate displays synchronized to holiday songs, along with illuminated plants and trees. Trail of Lights (Chatfield) offers a more rustic, yet no less dazzling, experience with a decorated trail. Both events take place November 29, 2013 to January 1, 2014, from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m., including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.

Blossoms of Light features strolling carolers on select evenings, romantic kissing spots and warming stations in Marnie’s Pavilion and the Orangery. Thousands of lights in the UMB Bank Amphitheater are synchronized to holiday music. The Shop at the Gardens is open for holiday gift buying. Visitors may purchase treats and hot beverages.

Trail of Lights presents colorful light displays with a cozy country aesthetic. The 1880s Hildebrand Ranch homestead is decorated with a vintage Colorado Christmas theme. The barn and antique tractors are also illuminated, along with the children’s play area and tree house that are synchronized to holiday music. A warming hut and fire pit are featured as well as free hayrides and live entertainment on select evenings. Treats and hot beverages are available for purchase.

The popular HoloSpex 3-D glasses are sold at both locations. The majority of the lights used are LED, reflecting the Gardens’ commitment to conservation and sustainability.
