Perfect Moment Monday: The Summertime Sandbox

I am participating in “Perfect Moment Monday” started by Weebles Wobblog. This seems like a perfect way to start my week, by remembering the good things that have happened throughout the week.

I have dirty little summer children. Yes, it might be cruel to call them that… but you know the ones I am talking about.

Kool-aid on their upper lip, stained from licking the remains of the sippy cup. Sand in their hair, on their hands and falling from their clothes onto the wood floors and my littlest one always seems to be eating whatever sand she can manage to sneak and munch on.

Their clothes are pretty and pink in the morning, and sand covered in the evening. They walk around in the grass without shoes on and play in the front lawn in rain puddles.

The dirty little summer kids that have chalk on their legs and arms as much as on the sidewalk. They love the ice cream man and will play in mud puddles just as much as a bubble bath.

They are me as a kid….. Hair in my face, sand everywhere with chalk covering my knees. I played outside until the sun went down and the street lights came on. I went to bed squeaky clean after a nightly bath, my long hair pulled back into a braid, and dreaming about the next day’s adventures.

These are perfect moments in a Mommy’s life, when I am sipping on a cup of coffee made by the man I was meant to be with, a cool breeze coming through an open window and my girls playing on the back porch with trucks and dolls, filling up a dump truck while they “dig for treasures” hidden in the damp sand.

I love it!

Well, I love that YOU love it because I am kinda OCD about getting my hands and hair dirty. But my kids are just like your kids.

So glad you're here for Perfect Moment Monday, Lilith!

Suzanne, you sound truly happy. Isn't it funny, the journey life takes us on and where we end up is so great.

I have a dirty little summer kid, too. And a dirty little fall, spring, and winter kid. Isn't it the best?

Your girls sound a lot like my girls. :)

My 3-year-old, in particular, loves to be outside - exploring, hiking, drawing with sidewalk chalk, licking popsicles, having picnics, etc.

And I encourage it all. The "mess" is totally worth it.
