Barbequed Meatballs

Every SuperBowl that Dave and I have been together, we enjoy a large spread of food, yelling and snarky remarks during the halftime show. It's tradition, why muck it up?

Dave's signature dish... Meatballs. Handmade meatballs from a recipe book he loves.

"Colorado Quilters Cookbook"

Barbequed Meatballs

1 5 ox can evaporated milk
1 pd ground beef
1 pd ground sausage
1 cup quick cooking oatmeal
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup chopped onions
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder

Sauce:

1 can ketchup
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon chopped onion
2 teaspoons liquid smoke

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients and shape into large balls - use ice cream scoop. Place in a single layer on a flat-bottomed 9x13 2 inch casserole dish (We just use a cookie sheet). Bake for 1 hour

Variation:

The recipe calls for pouring the sauce over the meatballs, we skip that step and cook them without the sauce and then let them sit in the crockpot in the sauce for about an hour before kickoff!

Notes: Can be Frozen
