Aloha Friday - 9/18

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question is:

What sports have you/will you/do you wish you had put your children in at a younger age?

I have been going over this question in my mind for a week or so now. I think that the most beneficial sport for my toddlers right now is gymnastics. Their bodies are more adaptive at this point and though I danced, played soccer and swam, I always wished to enter gymnastics when I was a young girl.

So, I'm looking up classes, groups and seeing where I can fit in the time and money to get my toddlers into gymnastics. Heck, sounds like Jake might even be joining them! I think that's good sibling bonding time.. right?

I want to get my daughter either in gymnastics or dance :) Don't know about sports though....I'll wait till she shows an interest in one and asks.

Swimming! My son had a huge fear of the water so he still hasn't learned and he's 19. Bad, huh?

We are baseball people, so Ry will be playing t-ball early on. I sure hope he likes it. Beyond that, I'm sure soccer will come up too.
I can say with certainty that I will not allow him to wrestle. I have watched way too many videos online of kids getting their limbs destroyed in that sport.

My oldest is only 3 so we haven't gotten to that point yet. I'd love for both my kids to participate in a team sport or group - whatever interests them. I think my son might like something that lets him run - maybe T Ball when he's old enough? I think gymnastics sounds fun, too.

My daughter LOVES the water and she isn't even 2 yet. She even took a dive into the pond at my parent's house already. We plan to get her swimming lessons next year.

Ahe also loves horses so we'll watch her and get her horseback riding lessons when she's a bit older. For now she just gets pony rides whenever we find them.

My 6 year old has played soccer since he was 3 and when my youngest turns 3 we will sign him up for soccer also. T-ball is another one we have done and will probably do again.

Lil' D, he's five, is taking swim lessons now and we hope he will someday be on a swim team. He has also started tennis and we plan to start golf. Aloha and take care.

My babies are still young... but I want my son to play some type of team sport next year. I think team sports are so good for kids.

My boys don't play any sports yet but I whatever they want to try I'd be supportive!

Neither of them really did the sports, but one did marching band, the other cheerleading, so that was plenty of "sports"

I think I want to get my daughter into dance, gymnastics and swimming, although the swimming part won't be til she's older...I take her to the pool a lot already so I think that will be the first thing she picks up! :)

I imagine ice hockey and skating will be in our kids future as we are a hockey/skating kind of family! In the summer time?? It seems like all the 5,6,7 and 8 year olds in my area play t-ball and softball. I believe sports are important for a child to be involved in for sooooo many reasons BUT I don't want to be a CRAZY SPORTS PUSHING PARENT!!

Aloha!

I don't have kids yet...but I wouldn't want to "force" a sport on them. I would probably force them to learn to swim though because that is a safety issue :)

I'm just not a sports kind of girl so I haven't really promoted the idea to my girls. However, if they show interest, then I would definitely look into it.

I'd love my daughter to try skiing early. I was a teenager and was scared to death so much I crawled down the bunny slope. LOL Must have been a funny sight.

I'd love to take her maybe at age 4 or 5. They don't have many fears that young.
