My son is a super hero!

My only son is a boy through and through, he plays every sport he can, and he’s aggressive and still a sensitive kid to his siblings.

Two weeks ago he was at a wrestling tournament to get to the city championships. He had worked hard all season and went up against a kid he’d never wrestled before.

A minute and a half into the tournament he got himself turned around and suddenly…

~THUD~

We all thought it was a torn muscle as he stopped moving, when the referee pulled the other competitor off Joey, you could tell my son was pretty hurt.

They checked him out and said it was probably a pulled muscle… we went home, having to forfeit the tourney and gave him some good meds.

Two weeks go by, he’s moving normally and even playing basketball with little pain.

Until he mentions the bruise on his chest, and we notice the huge bump protruding from where his collarbone is.

Friday we go to the doctors to take a few X-rays….

… The doctors are slack-jawed..

13 years old… playing basketball and moving with full range of motion…

Collarbone is snapped in half..

WHAT???

Doctor: Oh yea… he has a pure break in that bone, they will have to reset it.

Me: So… what does that mean about Basketball?

Doctor: Oh he is out for the season, he won’t be able to move it for 6-8 weeks.

Me: (look at my son as he tears up) ~blinks~ Are you kidding me? You break your collarbone, wander around life like normal for two weeks and you tear up because you can’t play basketball?

My son is dedicated…. And a dork.

Needless to say… we leave in 45 minutes to see an orthopedic surgeon. It’s gonna be a LONG week! Send some good thoughts our way... Hopefully he can start to practice when Basketball starts in 4 weeks!
