I do not think much about the rise in stamps from the post office. In fact it made little difference on me since I send most of my correspondence through the computer.
However, when I signed up to “Adopt a Marine” yesterday I started thinking about a ton of things. How much will it cost to send a box of items to him? How many times should I send one to him and should I send it through the post office or Fed Ex/UPS?
Then I realized it doesn’t matter. He won’t care if it is a letter, a postcard, or even a box full of candy, baby wipes and/or DVDs. He wants to hear from us… he wants to see letters from my kids talking about their lives over here… at home… he wants to see crayon drawings from my little ones… at home.
He knows nothing about my family, we have never met him and probably never will, however he has someone who supports him here in the
So… for as long as it takes, I’ll send videos and candy, post cards of pictures from
Because he deserves to smile… he deserves to know that some people out there are thinking about the men and women in the sand…
How about you? Will it cost more than a stamp?... Probably… is it worth it knowing that in a few weeks a group of men and women will be gathered around a box opening gifts from home?

Lil...you are amazing, and this post is truly important. I remember doing this as a kid for the gulf war, and my kids are doing it now. I'm still in touch with a soldier I wrote to when I was 12! Great post!!!
What a great thing you are doing! I know whoever will get your packages and letters will really appreciate it!
You might already know this, but just in case, the postage to send to the deployed troops is the same cost as if you were sending it to the states, it won't be an outrageous foreign postage fee. You're only paying postage to NY and then it gets sent on military flights to Iraq and Afghanistan. Sorry if you already knew this information :)
