Taste of Colorado 2015 - Family Friendly Fun for Labor Day Weekend

When my now-adult kids were little, I used to always search for ways to entertain them for free or cheap. I was a mostly single mom and didn't have a lot of disposable income for expensive attractions.

So every year when the Taste of Colorado came around, we would all pile in the truck and drive to downtown Denver (one of my favorite downtowns in the country). We would park many blocks away and walk in to the free event.

Now that my adult kids are grown, I have a family of younger kids that haven't been as often. So this year I am changing that. We are going to walk around and enjoy the night air, enjoy the festivities, maybe even enjoy the afternoon and see one of our favorites on stage, Mary Lambert.

Taste of Colorado has so much to offer families and couples alike.

The KidzStage (lineup listed here) features music, magic, clowns, puppets, and more, all in an intimate setting, where kids can get up close and interact (right on stage, if they want) with the entertainers.

The Baby Oasis presented by ColoradoKids.com is a convenient area located in the KidZone where parents can nurse, change diapers, and relax in a private environment complete with a rocking chair. An assortment of supplies, including diapers and baby wipes, is provided.

Taste is an opportunity for parents to encourage their children to try new foods from places like the Middle East, Japan, Poland, India, and the Caribbean, as many of the restaurants offer "taste-sized" portions for one to three tickets

Enjoy Carnival Rides and Games, located on Lincoln Street and Colfax Avenue, Saturday through Monday, presented by KOOL 105. EARLY BIRD wristbands can be purchased for $15 from 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m., Saturday through Monday, and are good on the day purchased until 5 p.m. ALL DAY wristbands can be purchased for $25 from 10:30 a.m. until two hours before closing Saturday through Monday and are good on the day purchased until closing. Wristbands are only available at the ticket booths on Lincoln Street. Individual rides are also available for generally two to ten tickets per ride. Carnival hours are 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sat., Sept. 4 through Sun., Sept. 6 and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mon., Sept. 7.

In the Festival of Mountain and Plain area, families can learn about the state's pioneer past. Featured artisans will demonstrate Navajo weaving and culture, spinning, lace crocheting, and felting, along with the popular blacksmith demonstration.

Be creative and take home fun works of art - the KidZone will also have a variety of free, hands-on craft activities for children of all ages.Glitter, feathers, paint, and more are just a few of the materials that will be available.

No carry-ins are allowed (including picnic baskets or chairs) however you can have backpacks and diaper bags, they are subject to being searched. You can bring in an empty water bottle and fill it up at one of the several water fountains/bubblers in the park.

The Taste entrance closest to the KidZone and KidzStage is at Bannock St. & W. Colfax Ave.

For a hassle-free transport, park further down the 16th St. Mall and hop on the free 16th St. Mall Ride, which will drop you off right in front of the festival.

If you haven't been in a while like us, go and see what it's all about!!

Lions, Elephants and Poodles - The Circus is in town!

Three of my daughters and I went to Ringling Bros, Barnum and Bailey Circus last night.

This years theme, Built to Amaze!

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents Built To Amaze! the 143rd edition of the Greatest Show On Earth coming to Denver Coliseum on October 3-6 and Pepsi Center on October 9-13 Surprise and wonder delights audiences with over the top feats of strength, agility and courage. As the momentum builds so does the anticipation, anything can happen when Ringling Bros.

Even my 19 year old daughter sat there with her mouth agape watching the entertainers do things that no one thought would be possible. They had a "hanging from the ceiling" trick that I had to look away on. And all they have are small things to catch them if they fall.

At the beginning of the show everyone can go down to the floor, try on costumes, meet some cast members, dance with the clowns and see an elephant do very cool and amazing tricks. I LOVE the chance for the kids to get close with the performers during this.

This year, Denver has two locations for shows and 9 days to get it all in. Go ahead, get some tickets for you and your family, get out there and enjoy the night. You can purchase tickets online here.
