Aloha Friday - 10/22

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link at An Island Life. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question is:

What do you do to encourage self esteem in your daughter, niece, granddaughter, etc?

This is an area I am not the best in! I have 5 daughters, the first and second daughters weren't my best work.

I've tried to teach them confidence, positive self thinking and beauty techniques. I think I lacked in some areas. Being a bit too harsh when critiquing their hair or an outfit.

My 19 year old seems to be slowly pulling out of the teenage angst and hatred of her own body. She's learning that we are our worst enemies and that the only person who will love her in the mirror when she wakes up in the morning is herself.

I've started to learn to halt the harsh ideas I have about my own body. I could stand to lose a few pounds, firm up that under bicep area (WHAT IS THAT??) but I'm also learning to keep it to myself. My kids don't need to know what I think about myself... they need to learn to love what THEY see.

My question is:

Where is your favorite online shop to get clothing?

I've come to LOVE online "window shopping" but when it comes to actually purchasing something I am terrified of clothing that might not be exactly as it looks in the picture.

So where do you go for clothing that has been great on style, size and customer service?

My question is:

How do you and your significant other deal with "issues" when they arise?

(This is not a fighting question, it's if things are just "off" or you haven't had the chance to talk much and things feel less than the comfortable happy that normally exists)

*Dave and I had a strange week, we were not fighting but trying to figure out how to balance the kids together. When talking about kids, we all get defensive sometimes, and there are new territories that neither of us have ever dealt with.

So finally last night, we could talk. No kids interrupting, not sippy refills... just us. We stayed up until around 3am hashing it all out, relearning how to parent... together. It's a new step, but something we needed to talk about. We are stronger for it, and I'll take the 3.5 hours of sleep I got to be a better parent, better partner and more loving person.

Have a great Friday everyone!!

My question is:

What is your favorite breakfast dish?

We are having our first family Halloween breakfast (The morning AFTER Halloween). I would love to have some great ideas that would be fun to make. I am making a Pumpkin Spiced Latte in the crockpot for the Starbucks coffee lovers in the family.

After that... I'd love to get some new ideas.

Aloha Friday - 8/28

My question is:

If you had a Friday and Saturday alone, without kids, work or responsibilities. Just you and your significant other. What would you do? Would you go out? Stay at home? Would you cook together?

Sub-question: If you could, would you want a weekend like this, once a month?

Dave and I just got this chance twice a month. Our schedules have opened up where we have these weekend nights without any children in the house. I find myself very excited about it. Not that our relationship has digressed into where we need this, however, I don't want it to get to that point.

We are romantic and spend evenings in a candle lit room, with quiet music in the background and talk until 3:00 in the morning. We still do crazy things like this on "school nights". However... the idea that we don't have to get out of bed or drive anyone to school is wonderful.

What am I going to do? This weekend... nothing, nothing at all. I am going to stay in bed, drift in and out of sleep while watching baseball curled up in his arms. I am going to wander downstairs to grab a cup of coffee, a snack and then head back up to the master bedroom, surf the web for new curtains on the laptop and have a pillow fight! I really.. can't wait..

What is the one thing you unpack first when you move?

I really need to have the main rooms in my house done. I really hate to walk into the house and feel like it's a mess.

Right now there is a window seat that needs to be cleaned off, it will be done by Sunday! I want to sit, sip peach drinks with Dave and talk for a while.

Your turn!!
